Radiation Detected!

Radioactive Urinal Found, Xxx's Xxxx, Oklahoma City, Penn and Memorial 8/12/09, 17:25

It has been a few days since I last posted.  But found elevated radiation levels at a urinal in Xxx's Xxxx.  Background levels according to my PM1703M where 5 uR/hr.  My wife and I were dong some grocery shopping, and I needed to get rid of the Diet Coke I had been drinking all afternoon.  I stepped into the restroom, and then chose the far urinal from the door.  As I was, er, relieving myself, the vibration alarm went off on my PM1703M which I was wearing on my belt.  As I glanced down I noticed the measurement was around 15 uR/hr.  Not high, but was enough to trigger the alarm.  It is not abnormal for porcelains and ceramics to have some tramp thorium in them.  When I finished, I washed my hands, and returned to take some further measurements.  Six inches or so from the resevour of the urinal the reading was roughly 35 uR/hr.  There where to other urinals in the restrooms, none measured higher than 8 uR/hr.  The sinks, made of a plastic material, all measured roughly background.  For the record, I do not routinely check urinals!  It just goes to prove that radiation detection is not a glamorous hobby.
